Each .308 caliber bullet weighs 200 grains and features an Extremely Low Drag-eXpanding design that combines a high ballistic coefficient with controlled expansion. With a coefficient of .597 and a sectional density of .301, this bullet is engineered to support a flat trajectory and consistent downrange performance when properly matched with a compatible rifle and load.
The ELD-X bullet uses Hornady’s Heat Shield polymer tip, which resists the effects of aerodynamic heating and helps preserve the tip’s shape throughout its trajectory. This design supports the bullet’s high ballistic coefficient from the muzzle to the target. A streamlined secant ogive and optimized boattail further improve aerodynamic efficiency, while the highly concentric AMP jacket promotes consistent bullet geometry and reliable accuracy during handloading.
For terminal performance, the bullet incorporates a thick jacket shank and high InterLock ring to help keep the lead core and jacket together during impact. The construction is designed to provide controlled expansion with approximately 50–60% weight retention, depending on impact conditions and other factors.
